This glossary contains key terms and concepts which are useful to understanding how MONA works. It’s a good companion when setting up your account and learning how to use MONA’s features.

- Accession Number
Numeric, alphanumeric, or other identifying codes assigned when an art object, book, or other item enters the collection of a museum, library, or other repository. Such codes are unique within the set of codes, and specifically identify the particular item at hand. The numbers may be marked on the objects or not. See full Getty Vocabularies definition.

- Contact
A Contact is any person who has been imported or manually entered that is involved in any way with licensing at your institution. They may be co-workers or external to your organization. Contacts must have Names and Email addresses, and optionally may have an Organization, Department, Role, Phone Number, Address, City, State, Zip, and County.

- Copyright
Exclusive, legally secured rights determining who may publish, copy, or distribute a work of art, writing, music, photograph, or other work. Works protected by copyright require the permission of the creator or other rights holder for their use. - Due Date
At the time of a Project’s creation, a Due Date is optionally included. This sets the day on which the Project needs to be completed and approved. The Due Date also shows up in the Project Details box.

- Duration (Licenses)
The License duration is automatically calculated from the State Date and End Date of the Usage Rights for an Object in a Project. Any date within that range would be the Active period of the License.

- End Date
In the Usage Rights for an Object attached to a Project, the End Date is the proposed time when the license will expire. Likewise, when Licenses are created or uploaded, they will also include End Dates.

- License Restrictions
In the Usage Rights for an Object attached to a Project, the user is able to add freeform text noting anything related to restrictions placed on the use of an image. For example, one such limitation could be no cropping is allowed.
